Which thermometer is right?

I’ve been watching my temp to give info to my doc about the kidney infection to see if it lets up.

My ear thermometer says 99.6
My oral thermometer says 97.7

lol those are totally different…which is right?
Woops 97.9 not 97.7
*if you saw my other question, were not even sure its a kidney infection but we’ll just say it is for the moment.
*Its a Braun Thermoscan btw…

*I re-checked it. Ear said 98.8 now and oral says 98.0

Thanks guys. Looks like there’s no need to panick! :D

I would say take your temperature again with each thermometer. Then compare the 1st and 2nd temperatures. Whichever thermometer has the least variation between the 2 readings is the more accurate one, and you should use that temperature.

i prefer ear thermometers but one of them could be wrong simply if you layed on you ears or something they could be at a higher temp. Best bet, go to the doctors.

Normal oral temp. is 98.6, Rectal temp. is .5 to1.0 higher. axillary temp. is .5 to 1.0 lower. And AM (acoustic meatal–ear) temp. is .5 to 1.0 higher. I’m studying about that now.

To be honest, you can always trust your Oral Temp. is correct.
