3. Make sure that the tip of the thermometer is well cleaned and disinfected before using it on anyone. Wiping the tip with ethyl alcohol prior and after use can usually clear off possible germs and bacteria. However, if you are planning on using the thermometer on several patients, it might be better to use disposable tips instead. This is a good way of guaranteeing that diseases and other contaminants will not be passed off from one person to the other.
